Established in 1983, Greg Kucera Gallery has created a national reputation for its engaging exhibition program focused on artists making a significant contribution to our culture. Recognizing that contemporary art is a moving target, the Gallery has championed emerging regional talent while seeking out relationships with nationally known artists who are also on the cutting edge. Early exhibitions for Kiki Smith, Jennifer Bartlett, Kara Walker and Andres Serrano, have been pivotal in establishing national visibility for the gallery.

The Gallery shows artists of the northwest within a national context though its participation in international art fairs, publishing exhibition catalogs, and by curating thematic exhibitions concerning the political situation of our present culture, and movements within the art world.

Exhibited inventory regularly includes works by Bourgeois, Butterfield, Close, Diebenkorn, Frankenthaler, Hockney, Johns, Kentridge, Marden, Motherwell, Puryear, Rothenberg, Waterston and Winters. The Gallery represents the print editions of U.L.A.E. in the Northwest, and works closely with various other publishers and studios.

The soaring, expansive space, of over 6,500 square feet, was designed by noted architect David DiMarco, to comprise three separate exhibition galleries, a mezzanine for prints and works on paper, and an outdoor sculpture deck. The Gallery also maintains a virtual presence with one of the most complete and highly respected websites in the art world.

Brent Sommerhauser, SADA Introductions 2009

The Seattle Art Dealers Association is pleased to announce that its members will join together during the month of July to spotlight the work of emerging artists or artists new to their galleries. Dealers encourage viewers to participate in a special midsummer gallery walk on Saturday July 18 from 11-5pm. Many of the artists whose work is featured will be present at venues from 2-4pm. SADA Introductions 2009 is an effort to showcase the work of artists who may be unfamiliar to the local audience.

Summer is often considered a sleepy season for the art world in other parts of the country, but it is one of the busiest seasons for SADA. With terrific weather, locals stay in town and the city becomes an exciting cultural destination for collectors from all parts of the world. In early June, collectors, curators and gallery owners often head to Europe for the Venice Biennale, Art Basel, and other events. But July is a mainstay for the Seattle Art Dealers, so on July 18 they will take advantage of this time to present untested or new talent. These linked exhibitions mark SADA’s ongoing commitment to bring new artists and their work to the attention of the community. A new round of Introductions will be scheduled in the future. The eighteen participating galleries are located throughout the city.
